  • GP Practice Health Care Assistants;

Healthcare assistants (HCAs) work in hospital or community settings, such as GP surgeries, under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional.
As a healthcare assistant (HCA), you'll work under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional, usually a qualified Nurse. Sometimes staff working in HCA roles are known as nursing assistants, nursing auxiliaries or auxiliary nurses.


The Healthcare Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and clerical support to the Practice Nurse Team and General Practitioners.  HCA’s and are hugely valued members of the Clinical Team, they can perform routine tasks under the supervision of a Nurse. 

  • Undertake New Patients Registration checks 
  • Undertake NHS Health Checks in accordance with national programme
  • Assist in chronic disease reviews  and illness, manage clinics i.e. follow up CHD, CKD
  • Perform, evaluate and interpret non-invasive blood pressure examinations
  • Promote Health Education by providing lifestyle advice, smoking cessation within agreed NHS guidelines
  • Promote Sexual Health in accordance with the national Chlamydia Screening Programme
  • Undertake basic measurements height, weight, BMI, waist circumferences, smoking histories and recording accurate information
  • Obtain and test urine specimens, record the outcome and refer if necessary to other Clinicians within the Practice.

GP Practice Nurses; 
Nurses are an important part of delivering care in General Practice. A shift in Nurse roles from hospitals to general practice provides nurses with really exciting career opportunities. General Practice Nurses working in a GP surgey form part of the primary healthcare team, which would usually include GPs, Pharmacists and Healthcare Assistants. In some larger practices, you may be one of a group of practice nurses sharing duties and responsibilities with each other, or in smaller practices, you might be working on your own, taking on many roles. You could be involved in all aspects of patient care. Practice Nurses may also have direct supervision of Healthcare Assistants at the Practice.

  • Assistance with Coil Fitting
  • Urinalysis
  • Swabs
  • ECG Procedures
  • Spirometry
  • Infection control management of equipment
  • Immunizations and Vaccines of Adult and Children
  • Contraception advice
  • General Family planning advice
  • Cytology,smear testing
  • Health promotion and lifestyle advice
  • Assisting with chronic disease management such as COPD, Asthma and Diabetes.


Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Independant Nurse Prescribers (ANPs);
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner has specialist training and is able to prescribe certain drugs

Clinical Pharmacist in General Practice

  • Clinical Diploma (Preferred)
  • General Pharmacuitical Council or GPHC (Essential)
  • Non-Medical Prescriber or NMP (Preferred)

Experienced Medical receptionists should have AMSPAR Level 2 or Level 3 Qualifications and be able to demonstrate competence working on the front of house greeting patients and booking  appointments on the NHS Computer system. Our Clients may have various different NHS Computer systems and your experience will be matched to the approriate Clients for best results. We have place a high number of Medical Receptionists into temp-to-perm roles. This means they started out as a temp, and were kept on by the GP practice after the contracts expired.
